HOMESCHOOL INFORMATION
House Bills 39 and 706, passed during the 2012 legislative session and signed by the Governor, move the responsibility of home school reporting from local school systems to the Georgia Department of Education beginning July 1, 2012. The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) developed a web-based system to efficiently comply with the new home school requirements.
Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to use the web-based system to submit their home school Declaration of Intent and attendance records as doing so will save time and resources for both the parent/guardian and the GaDOE. The GaDOE web-based system is located on the GaDOE home school webpage.
Additional information about home schooling and how to submit home school documentation is available on the home school webpage. Please be advised that the GaDOE web-based system is not affiliated with any vendor offering services to home school parents/guardians.
For parents/guardians who do not wish to utilize the web-based system, the GaDOE will also provide for the paper submittal of home school documentation. Parents/guardians may submit their home school documentation via mail or fax to the GaDOE at the contact information below:

Homeschool Division

The GaDOE will be responsible for issuing Certificates of Attendance for home school students that are eligible for a learner’s permit, driver’s license, work permit, or as needed for other purposes. Parents/guardians may request a Certificate of Attendance electronically using the web-based system or by contacting a GaDOE home school staff member.
Please note that pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 20-2-701 local school systems will continue to be responsible for filing proceedings in court to enforce the compulsory attendance law for home schoolers after written notice has been sent to the parents/guardians.
The GaDOE will coordinate with local school systems to provide the documentation needed for enforcing compulsory attendance for students in home study programs.
