Back in May, we shared a new partnership between Lumpkin County High School, Lanier Technical College, Satellite Industries, WorkSource Georgia Mountains, and Workforce Strategies Group. This partnership involving these 5 organizations was the first of its kind, and the success of the program would determine if we could provide this opportunity to more students. We are happy to announce that our six Class of 2022 students successfully completed the program and graduated on September 23rd with their 𝗚𝗮𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝗰 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 Boot Camp certificate! They are gainfully employed as welders with Satellite Industries right here in Lumpkin County. Congratulations, gentlemen! You not only set yourselves up for success, but you also paved the way for the future students of LC! #TR1BE

Connecting the dots and transfer of energy through photosynthesis and cellular respiration can be tricky. Ms. Westafer and Dr. Alldred understand that students need to spend time with these complex procedures and find creative ways to help students visualize the process. Plus, who doesn't want to be outside on a sunny afternoon studying science! #GoIndians

Coach Howell’s Forensics class put their crime scene skills to the test last week by collecting trace evidence at various locations around the school. Students had to collect, package, record and create a chain of custody for the evidence. Then each group worked with other groups who collected evidence from other sites to determine the “murder” scene.

To teach writing, you have to be a writer, and Dr. Catherine Gibbs is both a respected writer and a respected writing teacher. She says… “After I had been in journalism for a while, I had attended enough community meetings, and what I noticed was the people who can make a difference in their community were the ones who could communicate. [...] I wanted to go back in the classroom because I thought, if I can help students find their voices and [...] express their views—even if they were different than mine—that they could go out in the world and make a difference.” Please join us as we talk to Dr. Gibbs about her aspiration to both enjoy and improve the world. If you get a chance, stop by and ask Dr. Gibbs about the dog she mentions in the interview. This interview features Teresa Flowers and Jaedyn Gerrells interviewing Dr. Catherine Gibbs. Thank you Wyatt and Radford Windham for formatting the recording. Final edits and page formatting was completed by Barron Brooks, Chloe Jones, Jordyn Meeks, Hailey Roberts, and Jackson Turner. https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-2avh4-12b98d7
